2010 National Gender Forum

|
Rationale
G-rap’s commitment to gender equality has translated in the form of
support to gender equality and/or women’s rights organizations and
coalitions; gender policy development; engendering of institutional
practices such as structures, selection criteria and monitoring
indicators; programming support to RAOs and special events such as the
2010 National Gender Forum (G.rap, 2008).
The 2010 National Gender Forum is part of G-rap’s commitment to
promoting pro-poor policy and development. The central aim of the
conference is to gain insight into the nature of policy making from a
gender perspective in terms of how this dictates equal opportunities and
resource distribution and the social factors contributing to this. In
particular the conference hopes to address issues such as the equitable
participation in policy development and civic engagement and the
challenges to these.
The Forum will also create a space for engaging with policy makers, donor
partners, civil society organizations, development practitioners and gender
experts to engage and share gender experiences on policy, programming and
project interventions as part of G-rap’s pro-poor development support
initiative. The space should offer participants the opportunity to
celebrate, challenge, validate and explore possibilities for promoting
gender equitable development for the expansion of the gains and benefits of
the ongoing pro-poor agenda.
The papers, which would be the focus of the Forum, would be compiled into a
publication for wider dissemination.
