Background information

CEPIL was established in April 1999 as a human rights and public interest law firm. It is a company limited by guarantee, that is a non-profit organization incorporated under the Companies Code, 1963 (Act 179). Since its establishment, the Center has focused on the provision of pro bono legal services to vulnerable communities, especially in mining areas of the country. It has also been active in the defence of the rights of squatter communities in urban and peri-urban areas of the country.
