Background information

Netright was established in 1999 as a coalition to respond to identified gaps in the approach of civil society organisations working on women's rights issues. These gaps included a lack of collective approach to working on national and regional processes, an underemphasis of the political and power relational issues in the work on gender and development and the absence of debates which could lead to clear positions on women's rights.

As such, NETRIGHT operates by clearly emphasising a strong humman rights perspective, analyses the political and power relations in the work on gender, and also stresses the importance of advocacy and mobilisation.
