Contributions to National Development made by some G-RAP grantees
Abantu for development
is an NGO which focuses on governance, conflict,
poverty and ICT as contained in the 12 critical areas of concern in the
Beijing Platform for Action. One of Abantu’s flagship projects is
the development of the Women’s Manifesto for Ghana. This piece of work is
aimed at increasing women’s participation in decision making in Ghana and
support from G-RAP is helping to realised this objective.
G-RAP also supports CEPIL,
a local NGO whose main aim is using the law as a
tool to make justice accessible and affordable to poor and marginalized
communities and individuals. The Centre also aims at making government and
private actors accountable for their actions or inactions which adversely
affect individuals and communities. CEPIL are currently assisting mining
communities in and around Tarkwa in the Wassa West District of the Western
Region in their court cases with the mining companies in Tarkwa. CEPIL also
assisted 30,000 squatters on the Korle Lagoon land in their deliberations
with the government.
G-RAP also supports think-tanks like the CDD,
ISODEC,
TWN,
IEA
and IDEG
to
carry out research and analysis of public policies, including monitoring
their impact on Ghana’s democracy, the economy and governance in general.
Public Agenda,
a development oriented media house has also benefited from
G-RAP support to publish and disseminate information on research findings so
as to enlighten public policy debates and strengthen advocacy on local
governance and resource revenue transparency. Currently with G-RAP support
Public Agenda publishes the only newspaper on resource revenue utilisation.
The paper is called Resource Watch Agenda.
